KENDAL opening batsman Jonathan Miles hammered an unbeaten 118 to carry Cumberland to an eight-wicket victory - their first of the season - over Northumberland in the MCCA Trophy on Sunday.
Miles batted 165 minutes and faced 141 balls, hitting 13 fours and three sixes in his unbeaten 118.
Northumberland had set a target of 248-9 off their 50 overs in the game at Jesmond with Danny Shernan (57) and Chris Hooker (56) faring best.
When Cumberland replied, Miles took centre stage but there was excellent support from skipper Gary Pratt, also unbeaten for 39 after James lowes had contributed 65.
Cumberland team manager Ian Sharp said: "We bossed the game from ball one and it was a great win and pleasing victory with six Cumbrians in the team.
"It was the first one-day victory for four seasons and we go forweard into the game next Sunday against Shropshire (at Netherfield CC) with confidence.
"Jonathan Miles batted superbly and carried his bat."
