KENDAL's Jonathan Miles and fellow Cumberland batsman James Smith both cracked Minor Counties Championship centuries ahead of a compelling final day's play against Norfolk at Horsford on Tuesday.

Miles was making up for missing out on Kendal's Sunday triumph in the Jamie Heywood Twenty20 Finals Day win, in which they defeated Morecambe to lift the trophy for the first time.

After Norfolk took first use and were restricted to 191 all out in their first innings, Cumberland amassed 369-9 with Miles and Smith featuring in a sixth-wicket partnership of 121.

Miles batted 283 minutes and faced 115 balls, hitting 15 fours and three sixes to make 134.

Smith hit nine fours and three sixes as he contributed 105.

Norfolk's Chris Brown was the pick of the bowlers with 4-90 and they battled back to finish at 175-3 in their second innings (65 overs) with Harry Bush making 50.

Ian Sharp, the Cumberland team manager, said: "Our batting was very good and both players deserved their centuries.

"Norfolk bossed the final session as the pitch flattened.

"Nevertheless, the new ball is due in 15 overs and I am confident that our bowlers can bowl Norfolk out and set up an interesting finish, and we can get a result."
