MANY say that Lancashire rain scuppered the county’s chances of Cricket glory for 77 years.

But a locally brewed beer of the same name will be drunk to celebrate the elusive County Championship success.

Lancashire Reign is being hastily brewed by Blackburn-based brewer Thwaites and is set to be introduced to around 125 outlets throughout East Lancashire from Monday.

The company are the sponsors of Lancashire County Cricket Club and were keen to celebrate their first Championship triumph since 1934, the year Adolf Hitler became Fuhrer of Germany and Roosevelt introduced the New Deal in the USA.

The club sealed their first post-war title by defeating Somerset by eight wickets.

The beer is described as amber in colour, quite strong at 5 per cent alcohol, with a hoppy flavour.

Former player Warren Hegg, now commercial manager at Lancashire CCC said: “All the players and staff richly deserve to revel in their success and we will certainly enjoy a few pints of Lancashire Reign to celebrate.”
