ARNSIDE hoped to capitalise by asking Burneside to bat on a soft, wet wicket and at 35-3 the verdict looked to be swinging in their favour. But the home team limped to 63 without further loss after 30 overs before the acceleration came and Wilson and Oakes' 77-run partnership did the trick. Wilson missed out on a deserved half-century when caught and bowled for 46, while Oates sacrificed his wicket for 38 in the chase for runs.
Brisk contributions from Stewart Airey and Brennan gave Burneside a final total of 148-8, a good total on a difficult scoring pitch, with Arnside’s best bowlers being Howsley (5-75) and Bullough (2-29). Arnside were mindful of rain and tried to play expansively from the outset. Captain Lee went to a good off-cutter from Metcalfe. Richardson came and went in a hurry and Ollie Hogg played a poor shot to a short ball and was gone for ten, leaving Arnside 18-3.
Lenton and Brown tried to rally Arnside with a brisk partnership 24, but Wilson's left-arm wrist spinners were the turning-point, bringing him 5-5 as Arnside were shot out for 68 inside 22 overs.
