NETHERFIELD and Kendal both picked up victories over Barrow in the Twenty20 to knock the Furness side out of this year’s competition.

It means that Twenty20 Finals day will take place at either Parkside Road or Shap Road on Sunday, July 7, with the two teams facing each other in what is pretty much a winner-takes-all match on Friday, June 21, although Netherfield must play Barrow again.

Netherfield were the first to beat Barrow last Friday at a packed Parkside Road thanks to openers Colin Ackermann and Craig Walmsley, who struck 51 and 41 respectively.

John Huck was the only other batter to reach double figures as he hit 12, but the damage had nevertheless been done by the first two as Netherfield recorded 127-9 from the first innings.

Barrow used six bowlers in their attempts to restrict Field, with Gary Collins picking up four wickets for the loss of 20 runs from his four overs.

Ackermann rounded off a superb performance with 3-11 from his 3.2 overs in the second innings as Netherfield bowled Barrow all out for 109 to secure a 10-run win.

Nathan Chambers also continued his good form with a triumvirate of wickets.

Jon Wells top-scored for the visitors with 27 while Daryl Wareing picked up 24 and Michael Wellings 19 but it was not enough as Netherfield bowled Barrow out with four balls left.

On Tuesday night Barrow won the toss and batted first, but with the first ball of the match Sam Dutton was caught behind off Adam Cowperthwaite.

Pro Wells was next to depart, losing his leg stump to Cowperthwaite and Nicky Burns soon followed when he was caught by sub-pro Brad Moses off Stu Parkin's bowling.

Greg Reynolds and Rhys Studt added 67 for the fourth wicket before Reynolds departed for 24 - caught at long off by Terry Hunte off Chris Miller's off-spin.

Studt’s partners came and went and he was not out at the end for 60 runs off 52 balls in Barrow's 114-7.

Kendal's innings started in very poor light and openers Ryan Nelson and Darren Moore got 23 on the board before the pairing of Hunte and Moses set about the Barrow bowling in a 96-run winning stand that had the assembled crowd purring with admiration.

Both batsmen produced clean crisp hitting, combined with excellent running between the wickets for quick singles seemingly at will.

Moses finished with 44 runs off 36 balls and Hunte gained 31 runs from 35 balls.
