A BOUYANT Marc Brown is targeting revenge on Saturday as reigning league champions Fleetwood come to town, before Netherfield host Blackpool for a place in the Readers Cup final.

Brown and Co endured a difficult afternoon on the Fylde coast back in May, losing by nine wickets after being routed for just 66.

And the Parkside Road skipper hopes his charges can take some momentum from their clash with Fleetwood into Sunday’s showdown.

“We are aiming to put on a show against Fleetwood because we produced one of our most disappointing performances this year at their place where they rolled us out pretty cheaply,” he said.

“There is no doubt they are a good team but their form has been a little inconsistent in recent weeks and we would like to take advantage of that.

“We want to get a win under out belts and take that into Sunday which is a big day for the club because the league is out of reach now.

“To get to another final and have the chance of more silverware would be represent a decent enough season for a team going through a transitional period – it’s a huge weekend.”

Netherfield travelled to Stanley Park to face Blackpool last weekend, claiming a winning draw after Brown played a captain’s knock, carrying his bat and scoring 86 from a total of 178.

Despite failing to get over the line, the former Carlisle man – who was content with his own performance – was pleased his side managed to seize the initiative in the game.

“Although we didn’t get the full points, it’s good to get a positive result rather than a negative outcome,” he added.

“We had a bit of a depleted side out to be fair, even though lads who came in did a reasonable enough job.

“Conditions weren’t fantastic for batting earlier on but I think it was important to take responsibility and get us to a respectable score. “I was pleased with my knock, it’s has been a frustrating year but someone had to stand up and on this occasion it was my turn.”

Meanwhile, as Kendal prepare to play Lancaster at Lune Road, all eyes are on legendary batsman Terry Hunte as he closes in on 20,000 Northern Premier League runs.

The league’s all-time run-scorer, Hunte originally joined the Shap Road club as a professional in 1987, although his skipper has mixed feelings about him reaching the milestone on Saturday.

“I hope he doesn’t get it this weekend in some respects as I’m away at a wedding,” he said.

“In all seriousness though, it is a massive achievement and I don’t think it will ever be beaten so fair play to Terry who has stuck with us for 20 years now. “It’s amazing what he continues doing for us.”

Hunte top-scored once again last week as the weather intervened and denied Kendal the opportunity to push for victory in the final ten overs against Darwen.

And although skipper Parkin is unavailable this weekend, with Gary Baker returning from New Zealand to take charge, he hopes his batting unit can start firing on all cylinders.

“The Darwen game could have gone either way although I was confident of winning. In some ways it was the story of the season, so near yet so far,” he said.

“We still need to be more clinical with our batting and when we’re chasing a total one of the top four has to bat through and not get out after making starts.

“It’s a familiar story with batsmen getting out rather than sticking around and doing a job and we don’t have a pro batsman to rely on to knock scores off.

“It’s always a tough game down at Lancaster and they have got themselves into a position to challenge for the title but I’m positive as usual going into the game.”
