NETHERFIELD seam bowler Nathan Chambers admits his personal performance combined with his side’s victory against Chorley was the perfect Parkside Road tonic.

The 24-year-old claimed 5-41 from 14 overs as Netherfield chased down their victory target with ease, knocking of the winning runs in the 25th over to win by eight wickets.

Chambers also proved a standout performer in his side’s TWP Wealth Twenty20 win over Penrith, taking 3-16 from his four overs while only conceding three runs from the final six balls.

And while content with his overall form this season, Chambers was relieved to return to his wicket-taking best and contribute to Netherfield securing a much-needed victory.

“I definitely needed that as I’ve struggled for the last few weeks and been working hard to get myself back into form,” he said.

“It’s returned at the right time and I was very pleased with my performance. Bar the last few weeks, I think I’ve been going pretty well this year and have been contributing.

“Being a touch off form is just cricket and it happens and you cannot always explain it.

“In terms of the team, it was crucial to carry on our brilliant form from the Twenty20s and take it into the league, we were desperate for the win – it was the perfect performance all round.

“It all came together at the weekend and we now need to push ahead with that consistency. If we bat and ball to our maximum we can take anyone on.”

Netherfield were scheduled to play a crucial Twenty20 fixture against Kendal at Shap Road last night, before heading to Penrith on Friday night for their penultimate group stage fixture.

High-flying Darwen are the opposition on Saturday in the Northern League before the Parkside Road club head to Lancaster in the Readers Cup on Sunday.

And while Netherfield will have to live without Chambers for their clashes in the shortest form of the game, the right-arm medium-fast bowler fully accepts the importance of upcoming matches.

“Unfortunately I’m unavailable for the Twenty20s but this is a big time of year and we have games coming thick and fast,” he added.

“It’s the stage of the season that if you put a run together you can be involved in all competitions so it’s the time when it all counts and we need to deliver.

“Darwen are going really well but hopefully we can rise to the occasion and continue our momentum. We also did well in the Readers Cup last year before losing in the semis in controversial circumstances.

“Hopefully that can act as inspiration this time around and make us determined to get there again.”
