KENDAL Cricket Club head into the 2015 Northern Cricket League campaign looking to improve on what has been an inconsistent couple of seasons for the team from Shap Road.

The club, who begin their campaign at home to Lancaster on April 18, have seen a fair few changes during the off season, with Chris Miller taking over the captaincy from Stu Parkin and Gary Baker appointed as the club's vice captain.

They have also seen key players such as Adam Cowperthwaite and Nick Lewthwaite depart.

However at the same time, they have brought in former Preston captain Saeed Bariwala who will certainly strengthen up their batting and bowling.

Kendal have also signed a professional, acting quick after the move for Duanne Olivier fell through. However despite the club not being able to announce the signing just yet, skipper Chris Miller has high hopes for the season ahead.

"The 2015 season sees a few changes down at Shap Road, we have sadly lost Adam Cowperthwaite to Arnside while Nick Lewthwaite has gone back to Windermere," said Miller. "Both players will be missed they have certainly been a massive part of our club over the past few years.

"We have however brought in Saeed Bariwala from Preston, and have also signed a professional for the new season, however sadly I am unable to reveal who this is as yet!

"With the new additions as well as the continued development of our younger players, there is no reason why we can't challenge for a top four place.

"However for us to achieve that goal we need to be consistent, this is something which has been our biggest problem over the last couple of seasons and something we are looking to put right for 2015

"We also want to put a decent challenge in all three of the cup competitions, so hopefully we can bring some silverware back to Shap Road, after not winning anything for a couple of seasons.

"Our Cup form over the last four years has been good and hopefully that trend can continue this campaign.

"My pick for the league title would have to be our neighbours across Town (Netherfield), they have by far the best batting line up across the league and the signing of Dieter Klein looks a good one, it's theirs to lose!"
