NETHERFIELD captain Marc Brown admitted his team were caught cold by Northern League champions Blackpool last weekend - now they are hoping to do the same to Morecambe on Saturday.

Field fell foul to the deadliest bowling attack in the league as Richard Gleeson and Juan De Villiers ripped through their batting line-up as they were dismissed for just 64 runs inside 18 overs.

Morecambe sat out the opening round of fixtures so Brown is hoping that, with one game under their belt, Netherfield can take advantage.

"You do get some strange results at the start of the season so while we are disappointed with what happened at Blackpool, I wouldn't read too much in to it," said Brown.

"Blackpool basically caught us cold and we are hoping we can now do the same against Morecambe who are yet to play."

Brown said he was reasonably happy with his side's bowling and fielding display as they restricted Blackpool to a gettable 174-9 after their 50 overs.

New professional Dieter Klein was among with wickets, claiming two in his 11 over stint, as they did not allow any one Blackpool's batsman to dominate with Matthew Houston (37) and Andy Furniss (36) the main source of their runs.

Mark Clarkson returned figures of four wickets for 42 runs off 13 overs as Netherfield's stand-out bowler.

"We held catches and took wickets so I was reasonably pleased with the way we bowled and fielded, not so much with our batting," added Brown who was the first of De Villiers four victims.

Only Bradley Earl (10) and Nathan Chambers (18no) managed to get in to double figures as Netherfield lost their first five wickets for just 16 runs.

"Blackpool demonstrated against us that they have the most lethal bowling partnerships in the league. With Gleeson and De Villiers bowling at each end, they will definitely by there and thereabouts again this season," he added.

"Naturally, you want to get off to a winning start but you know over the course of a season you are going to have a low point so hopefully we have got ours over and done with."

Netherfield welcome Morecambe to Parkside Road on Saturday and Brown backs his side to come up with the goods on the home turf.

"Morecambe have had to sit out the first week so have had to wait for their opening game so we will be looking to take advantage," said Brown. "We back ourselves against anyone at our place so we hopefully we can begin our home campaign with a win."
