Preston 109-8
Kendal 108
KENDAL’S bowlers tried hard to remedy a poor batting display but Preston’s No7 batsman Hiten Modessa proved to be their nemesis in a two-wicket defeat at West Cliff on Saturday.
Earlier, in-form Lukman Vahaluwala (6-33) removed the Kendal top four, including Kiwi professional Jamie How for 12, and professional Saeed Bariwala (3-17) supported well as the visitors were all out for 108 in 31 overs.
Terry Hunte made 36 but the story of the innings was summed up with extras next best on 14.
Skipper Chris Miller (5-27) led a Kendal fightback as Preston crashed to 27-5, but a sixth-wicket stand between Bariwala (28) and Modessa (39) added 42 to lift them to 68 before Bariwala fell to Jack White (2-32).
However, when Modessa was eighth man out Preston needed only four for victory, which came up at 109 in 45.5 overs.
