ARNSIDE top the Readers Westmorland Cricket League after Alex Davidson smashed a match-winning performance past Bare on Saturday.

In the second innings, the opener struck four sixes and 12 fours on his way to an unbeaten 109, picking up two-thirds of his entire side’s runs as they chased down Bare’s 152-8.

The first innings started well for the home side though as they cruised to 60-0 by the 18th over.

But then Arnside’s bowlers all began chipping away with wickets, Adrian Lee claiming 2-26 and Chris Howsley 2-47, to restrict Bare’s run rate as they regularly dismissed wickets.

In the second innings it was the Davidson show as he bludgeoned his way to sucess, with Arnside losing four wickets on their way to a 12-point win.

Burneside picked up their first success of the season as opener Ryan Shepherd struck 55 not out to claim a straightforward success at home to Warton.

Burneside had their opponents out for just 102, and in the reply they lost a solitary wicket to lift them up to second in the table.

Jono Cooper’s 6-45 was not enough for Windermere to claim a triumph over Trimpell, despite the home side being all out for 119. Windermere mustered up just 83 in response as Trimpell’s bowlers tore into the batting.

Number three Adam Dixon helped Bolton-le-Sands wrack up a score of 200-7 in their home tie against Silverdale, whose Jon Mason picked up a five-wicket haul.

Sands lost an early wicket but a partnership of 70 between Dixon and Clarkson put Bolton-le-Sands well on the way to success.

Silverdale looked to come out for the draw, but once they lost their first wicket the rest began to follow as Adam Dyson and Mark Clarkson picked up four wickets apiece to round off a 90-run success.

Milnthorpe are still looking for their first victory of the season after a losing draw at Heysham.

The home side won a crucial toss and batted first, with Andrew Ideson reaping the benefits with a knock of 106.

Milnthorpe went for it in reply, but Mike Wills was the only batter to get over the half-century mark with 52 as the visitors lost their wickets in groups.

In the 43rd over Milnthorpe lost their ninth wicket, but Bob Baldwin and James Parkinson survived the last few overs to earn a losing draw for their side.

Shireshead won an important toss and decided to bat first on a solid looking pitch. This immediately paid dividends as Tom Jacques (61) took the attack to the Westgate bowlers and dispatched anything loose. He was ably supported by Nick Rafferty (36) as the opening pair put on 104.

But the momentum of the innings never recovered after the opening partnership was split and the scoreboard limped to 174-9 as Danny Wilkinson returned to the attack with a vengeance to finish with 5-18.

Westgate were 11-0 after 10 overs in the reply, but that was boosted to 87-0 by the third over as captain Andy Hill (49) and Garry Tattersall (30) kept their side going.

But the run rate dried up despite Wilkinson’s 25, with captain Paul Yates 2-27, and the points were shared as Westgate finished on 141-6.
