WARTON picked up their second maximum 15 points victory of the season to maintain their good start to their Westmorland Cricket League Division One campaign.

Put in to bat on a damp wicket, Warton made steady start however wickets then fell regularly as Silverdale exploited the conditions superbly.

Only three Warton batsmen made it into double figures with Finney (15), Ryan Nelson(34) and Ricky Nelson (41).

Nelson played an anchor role and used all his experience to guide his team to a competitive 140.

For Silverdale, J Thompson took an excellent 5-37 and P Moffat 4-33.

In reply, Steven Beck removed J Mason early on with an excellent slip catch from Ryan Nelson and Warton sensed victory. However the dangerous Jack Hargreaves started to open up with boundaries and the game was very much in the balance at the drinks interval.

But Finney rotated his bowlers and it was the reintroduction of Crowther that accounted for the excellent Hargreaves (56) and that changed the game.

Warton took some great catches including a wonderful effort to remove S Creed by Ali Matthews and the game was heading Warton's way.

Nelson then brought his spin to the table and mopped up the tail to bowl out Silverdale for 95.

Graeme Crowther 4-32 and Ryan Nelson 5-20 for Warton who stay in second place.

Third-placed Shireshead and Forton beat Heysham 108 runs

Electing to bat, Shireshead started solidly, although both opening batsmen Paul Yates (26) and Phil Bovis (38) had to work hard for their runs.

Sam Calverly (4 for 37) and Andrew Ideson both bowled a good line and length to ask questions of Shireshead’s openers who steadily compiled 68 for the first wicket.

Yates fell just as the innings was gaining real fluency but Nick Rafferty (33) continued the good work accompanied by a Simon Gould cameo.

At 124 for 2 with 10 overs remaining a large total seemed likely, but Calverly’s persistence ensured the aggressive Shireshead middle order could never cut loose and the innings closed at 169 for 9.

The Heysham reply began badly as Dave Jack removed Jamie Antcliffe in his first over but worse was to come as James Rafferty (7 for 27) then ripped through the Heysham top order.

Rafferty bowled with real pace and accuracy and was well supported by Jack and Heysham were soon reeling at 25 for 5 in the 11th over.

James Whincup (17) bravely fought a rearguard action, but when Rafferty removed him, caught behind with a beauty, the end was nigh.

Leg spinner Rowan Upton (2 for 1) got in on the act to finish a very professional job as Heysham were bowled out for 61 in the 24th over.

Westgate hold a three point lead at the top of the table but were made to work for their win at Ambleside.

Dan Southworth took three early wickets to put Ambleside on top as only Andy Hill (30), made double figures from Westgate's top order, Briggs added 29 but with them both gone, Westgate were 92 for 7. S

However some lusty blows from Ryan Speak (39) and a useful 27 for Gary Tattersall propelled Westgate's total to 159.

The game looked pretty even until the departure of Oli Wileman for 48.

Westgate then cleaned up the tail for a 15 point win, Ambleside finishing on 107.

D Tubby was top scoring on the weekend but it was all in vain as his 81 could not prevent Sedgewick slipping to defeat to Bare.

Batting first, Bare racked up 208-6 with Sedgewick restricted to 172-8 in reply.

Milnthorpe (117 all out) beat Burneside (109 all out) and Arnside came out on top in low scoring match at Windermere.
