WINDERMERE made it back-to-back victories in the Westmorland Cricket League in Division One following a superb victory at in-form Milnthorpe.

The home side had only lost once all season but, after Windermere won the toss and put Milnthorpe in to bat, there was no looking back for the visitors.

Some wonderful bowling saw Milnthorpe dismissed for just 89 runs with Matt Park and Nick Leithwaite doing the damage.

Park took four wickets as did Leithwaite which also included bowling nine consecutive maidens.

Jim Crawford wrapped up the tail, taking the last two wickets.

In reply, it took Windermere less than 20 of there allotted overs to knock the runs off, losing four wickets in the process.

Oliver Killiner top scored with 36 with Sam Fletcher adding 26 as victory took Windermere up to sixth place in the table.

League leaders and the previously unbeaten Westgate slipped to a shock home defeat to Silverdale in an enthralling contest.

In a match that could have gone either way, Silverdale managed to scamper over the winning line in a action-packed run chase.

Silverdale’s Phil Mason won the toss and decided to bowl first, and despite an incredible catch by former Westgate legend Steve Creed, Westgate were off to a flying start thanks to Khan Puffett (26) and after just 12 overs Westgate were 41-1.

But Jon Mason (5-52) kept his wits despite the early onslaught and took the crucial second wicket before the game could get away from Silverdale.

Thanks to the ageless P Moffat (5-39) - whose spell of 20 straight overs included nine maidens - and Mason the pair utilized the conditions available to them by bowling full and straight and the last nine wickets fell for just 60 runs.

Andy Hill (24) once again watched as wickets tumbled at the other end, with only a counter attack by Aaron Peace (23) being the other significant contribution as Westgate were bowled out for 101.

In response, Silverdale were always just ahead of the game, being 32-2, 60-4 and then 84-5.

The innings of the day came from Sam Letcher (30) who timed the ball beautifully, dispatching anything loose, and he was backed up by a good knock from the slightly fortuitous J. Greenall (22).

Dylan Conroy (5-33) was almost on a solo mission to wrestle the game back for Westgate as his pace and accuracy caused problems throughout his 15 overs.

At 84-5 with the winning line in sight, Westgate cranked up their efforts and began to test Silverdale’s resolve. Jack Hargreaves (16) added some good runs but once had Puffett held onto a phenomenal one handed slip catch off Tattersall (2-24) the game was all off a sudden in the balance at 84-7.

Despite Greenall falling to Buchanan (1-7), and then Dave Mason when the scores were level, youngster J Thompson (six not) kept his nerve to just see his side home with scenes of jubilation from the away side.

Second-placed Shireshead closed the gap of Westgate to three points but had to settle for a winning draw against Ambleside.

P Yates (76) and P Bovis (77) were the mainstays of the Shireshead batting attack as they closed on 196-5. Ambleside reached 146-8 with G Weddell (52) top scoring.

Third-placed Warton dominated their match against Sedgwick but had to settle for a winning draw.

Batting first Warton were struggling and it took father and son as Ryan and Ricky Nelson to get them out of trouble, batting superbly to put Warton in charge. Ryan (62) and Ricky (71) took Warton took a commanding position with Jack Tugman (23no) allowing Warton to declare after 44 overs on 193.

In reply, early wickets came as once again the impressive Steven Beck (4-40) tore through the top order but Sedgwick began to play for the draw and Warton could not quite find the wickets at the other end.

Despite good efforts from Ryan Needham (1-15), Graeme Crowther (1-30) and Ryan Nelson (2-21). Warton should have won this game but with other results going their way things are getting tight at the top.

Good batting performances for Sedgwick came from M Bracken (24) and C Miller(35).

A wonderful all-round display from C Nicholson guided Burneside to victory at Bare.

Batting first, Bare were dismissed for 161 with Nicholson (6-25) doing the damage before scoring an unbeaten 65 as Windermere reached their target for the loss of six wickets.

And S Calverley finished with figures of 6-36 as Heysham bowled Arnside out for 86 then reached their total for the loss of five wickets.

In Division Two, leaders Coniston lost for the first time this season in their top of the table clash with Shireshead.

Batting first, Coniston were bowled out for 181 with M Burton (54) and N Atkinson (59) the main contributors.

In reply, I Ullah top scored with 59 as Shireshead finished on 183-9 to close the gap at the top to four points.
