PETER Wilson scored an unbeaten century as Shireshead kept their Westmorland Cricket League title charge firmly on course.

It was his first ton for the league leaders who eased to victory over bottom-of-the-table Bare to stretch their lead at the top of Division One to 13 points.

Coming in at number three, Wilson scored 101 which included 15 boundaries as Shireshead declared on 197-8.

With a threat of rain, they started positively with Phil Oliver striking four early boundaries before he fell to M Cook (2-48). Wilson added 50 with Danny Wilkinson (30) and 81 with Joel Dugdale to keep the innings ticking along nicely throughout. Andrew Sharman finishing with 3 for 49.

The Bare reply began badly as Tom Jacques smartly caught John Sharman from the bowling of Dave Jack off the first ball of the innings, but Andrew Sharman (28) and Frank Smith (22) added 43 quickly as Bare recovered.

But Jack (6-38) ended any hope of an unlikely fightback with a spell of hostile spell. With rain clouds gathering Shireshead were desperate to finish the job and Phil Oliver (2-2) proved to be the man for the occasion as two wickets in two balls clinched the 15 point victory as Bare were bowled out for 86.

Second-placed Westgate picked up seven points in their rain-affected clash at Milnthorpe. Westgate were bowled out for 130 with S Singleton (5-26) the pick of the Milnthorpe bowlers who scored 123-7 in reply.

Third-placed Warton's match against Arnside was also affected by the weather.

Visiting Arnside posted 191-7 with A Richardson (59) and A Cowperthwaite (57) the pick of their batsmen.

In reply, Warton ended on 164-4.

J Antcliffe scored an unbeaten 102 and S Calvery was 57 not as Heysham picked up a winning draw at Sedgwick.

The visitors finished on 232-5 with Sedgwick scoring 198-9 in reply.

D Douglas top scored with 58 as Ambleside were bowled out for 102 but it was in vain as Burneside claimed the victory.

And M Park took 7-38 as Windermere bowled Silverdale out for 82. Windermere reached their target for the loss of 86-2.
