REIGNING Westmorland League Champions Shireshead got their second win a row to build up a 13-point lead at the top of the table.

They overcame Warton by 21 runs with the initial platform being laid by as Tom Jacques (31) and Paul Yates added 31 for the first wicket. Phil Bovis (22), Danny Wilkinson and Nick Rafferty (23) continued to build a score as Warton’s change bowlers of G Cassidy and R Needham gave no more away than Crowther and Beck, but momentum gradually built and Simon Gould, Dave Jack and Phil Oliver ensured a competitive 146 for 8 was posted at the tea interval.

James Rafferty (2 for 29) and Dave Jack (4 for 25) made good progress in removing with Warton order in their response, reducing them to 20-4 at one stage before eventually skittling them out for 125.

Heysham had no hesitation of putting Burneside into bat in their encounter at Ellergreen Park and both opening bowlers proved very difficult to get away with Sam Calvery picking up 1-11 off 11 and Andrew Ideson, who threw down 12 overs picking up 2-34 including the dangerous Davies for 16.

Robbie Tattersall rebuilt the innings with 25 well crafted runs aided by 16 from Tim Blamire.

The change bowlers from Heysham also bowled well with Sheringham 31-4 and Shane Dixon 21-3 Burneside finished on 102 which was a competitive score on a difficult wicket.

The Burneside bowlers however failed to find the right areas often enough and allowed all the Heysham batsmen cheap runs. With just a top score of 17 Heysham were able to knock the runs off for the loss of 5 wickets from just 28 overs. The only bowler of any note was Steve Huggonson who bowled with great control for 4-2 off 8 overs.

Elsewhere inSaturday's fixtures, Ambleside beat Silverdale by five wickets, Arnside won away at Carnforth by 25 runs, and Milnthorpe beat Westgate by 51 runs.
