Silverdale 96.
Milnthorpe 97-4.
MINLTHORPE won the toss and with rain forecast opted to try to dismiss the visitors cheaply and get the points before the weather arrived.
However, Silverdale had the in-form Williams and reached 50 without loss with comparative ease.
Will made the breakthrough with his first delivery, having Williams caught and bowled, from one that popped.
Illingworth then had McManus caught by Bowman, and the dangerous Dodds followed, caught by Dixon acrobatically in front of the wicket off the glove.
Wills then accounted for Moffat and had work-mate Jonny Mason in knots before another spectacular caught and bowled. Illingworth bowled a wonderful 19-over spell largely due to his new boots which held firm.
In fact, Illingworth and Wills accounted for the remainder of the wickets.
Rain arrived during the interval and the covers went on. Milnthorpe had a total of 52 overs to get 97 but this was quickly eaten into because of the rain.
When play eventually resumed, Milnthorpe had 20 overs to get the runs. Baldwin and Bowman set about the task and were finding the gaps for at least one boundary an over. Baldwin (14) first to go caught in the covers off by his own admission a hoik.
Bowman looked in good order as he set about Williams with authority and some lovely straight drives. Suddes (11) kept the run rate going before been bowled by J Mason round his legs.
Bowman (30) went next to Moffat and Wills and Burr (12) hit a big six to get things going and was the last wicket to fall as Wills (14) and Pennington (16) saw the game home with seven balls to spare.
*Warton 162-7.
Burneside rain.
RAIN ruined this top of the table clash after Warton posted a total of 162-7.
Burneside, shorn of three first-teamers, bowled well to restrict the talented top three of Warton.
Oates featured in a marathon 17-over spell rewarded with 3-50 and, with Leacock (2-52) bowling with great authority, Warton's top order struggled early doors.
Indeed if Burneside had held two difficult chances they would have been 6-3 at one point.
A good rearguard performance from the middle-order of Crowther, Batson and young Dixon rallied them to reach 162 before a heavy thunderstorm put paid to what could have been an intriguing second half.
Hackney & Leigh Trophy (quarter-final).
Burneside 132.
Windermere 123.
HEAVY overnight showers left Windermere's square very damp and play did not get under way until 2.30pm.
Losing the toss, Burneside unsurprisingly were asked to bat and were soon in trouble as talisman Davies was run out for six and pinch-hitter Daws was gone for 12.
Batty rallied with a patient 14 but it was down to captain Cooper (39) and Batteson (18) to carry the score to 104-3 with eight of the 25 overs remaining.
But both were out in quick succession and from then on it was the Park show as he claimed 5-18 off four overs, mainly assisted by some poor lower-order batting.
Burneside, from being in a healthy position, were shot out for 132.
In reply. Fletcher attacked and rushed to 31 as Windermere reached 32- off four overs.
The introduction of Airey checked the scoring rate and he picked up the vital wickets of Cooper and Crawford in his five- over spell.
Lewthwaite, batting at five, rebuilt and played some attacking strokes, but with wickets falling at the other end it became a frantic finish as Wilson cleaned up the lower middle-order with 4-25.
With 22 needed off the last 16 balls, the odds were stacked against Windermere.
But hopes were reignited when the first ball of the penultimate over disappeared into the car park for a maximum.
After only three wides and a further single, plus the bonus of a wicket from Dawes, Leacock had the honour of bowling the final over with 12 needed.
The youngster kept his nerve as Lewthwaite failed to capitalise and young No. 11 Gibson with the work.
A suicidal single off the second last bowl gave Cooper the chance of a run-out, which he took and Windermere were all out for 123, with Lewthwaite stranded on 45 not out.
Division 2 Cup.
(semi-final).
Sedgwick 138.
Milnthorpe A 114.
Milnthorpe lost their Milnthorpe Taxis Second Division Cup semi-final match at home on Sunday.
Sedgwick won the toss, batted first and made what seemed a modest total of 138 in their 30 overs.
Simon Willacy top scored for the visitors with 41 runs and Milnthorpe captain John Naylor returned the best bowling figures of 2-16 followed by Tom Wright with 2-31.
However, Scott Singleton was the most economical, conceding just 12 runs off his six overs.
After tea Milnthorpe got off to a brisk start, putting on 24 runs for the first wicket but then lost four wickets in five overs. Despite a sixth-wicket partnership between Naylor (18 runs including a six) and Scott Dixon (25 runs including four fours) the home team were unable to keep up with the required run rate and were bowled out for 114 in the 29th over to lose by 24 runs. Chris Miller (3-15) and Nick Dalzell (3-20) were the pick of the Sedgwick bowlers.
Shireshead & Forton 167-6dec.
Heysham 107/3 rsp.
ONCE again rain conspired to disrupt what may have been a compelling game on Saturday.
After Reg Cupit (1-39) removed Tom Jacques (0), Colin Twiname (43) and Paul Yates (12) took the score to 43 before Yates fell to Joe Toulmin (2-52).
The middle-order all contributed, with Rob Jacques (28) in particular batting well, Mike Armstrong (19) and Phil Oliver (11) leading to Shireshead being in a strong position in the middle of the 40th over when the heavens opened.
Young left-hander Rob Charles’ innings made a skilful 31 not out from only 23 balls and may have been denied a maiden first team 50 by the weather.
Shireshead’s supersopper meant the game could restart with Heysham being set 168 in 30 overs.
Cupit (29) and James Whincup (40) added 56 in 14 overs, before Cupit was trapped lbw by Mike Park.
The tall medium-pacer bowled beautifully to take 3/15 from 9 overs as the game petered out.
Shireshead & Forton 170-8.
Warton 142.
SHIRESHEAD beat Warton by 28 runs on Sunday to reach the final of the Division One Cup for the second time in three years.Shireshead’s stand-out performance came from Colin Twiname with a supoerb 63 as James Rafferty took 4-20.
Paul Yates (24 not out) with support from Mike Park (13) ensured that 58 were scored from the final ten overs to set Warton a challenging target.
Shirehead’s Phil Savage (3-30) took a wicket in three successive overs.
At 51-4 the next wicket was crucial and Park (2-23), bowled Phil Bovis (31) with a perfect off-cutter.
Jacques (3-19) bowling a masterful line and length, but Brendan Heaven and Crowther added 25 in four overs to keep last season’s beaten finalists in the hunt until, with 29 needed from 17 balls, Crowther’s attempted big hit gave Yates a good low catch in the deep. Crowther had made 43 from 45 balls.
