Cricket - Trophy wait over for jubilant Cartmel

Lancaster Trophy Centre Div 3 Final: Heysham 91-8,Cartmel 92-5.

CARTMEL travelled to Sedgwick with high hopes of picking up their first trophy for 14 years.

After winning the toss skipper Kevin Williams put Heysham in to bat. This was justified as opening bowlers Dan Laisby and Dave Unsworth restricted them to just 32-2 from the first 12 overs. They added 30 runs in the next eight overs but lost three wickets, all to Joe Atkinson.

Sam Woodburn (3-15) and Mike Taylor (0-9) bowled the last 12 overs in style, restricting Heysham to just 91 from their 30 overs.

Although a low score it was never going to be easy batting on a slow, damp track. Neverse were jangling when openers Will Anderson and Tom Harvey went inside in first seven overs with only 25 on the board.

Ian Curwen and Sam Woodburn pushed on to 42 before Curwen fell and it was then up to skipper Kev to steady the ship.

However when he also went leaving the score at 61-5 it was game on. Dave Seef and Mike Taylor then took another seven overs to bring the team home in the 23rd over.

Teenager Joe Atkinson (Cartmel) took the man of the match award for his 3-16 and two catches.
