12:13pm Thursday 9th September 2010 in Westmorland League
IT’S A rip-roaring finish to the season in the Heysham Port Westmorland League with three teams still all in with a chance of grabbing the title going into the last day.
Milnthorpe clawed their way back to the top of the Division 1 table last Saturday, but are a mere two points ahead of Shireshead, while Westgate await any slip-up a further three points adrift.
So a fascinating campaign to the very last hurdle and it will be a fitting test of nerve as much as skill to get their heads in front at the finishing post.
Milnthorpe must travel to play Burneside (sixth) at Ellergreen Park, while Shireshead and Westgate have home advantage against Windermere (eighth) and Silverdale (seventh).
At the foot of the table Kirkby Lonsdale looked doomed to join Trimpell in the drop to Division 2 after Heysham's win last weekend lifted them clear of the drop zone.
In another nailbiter Sedgwick are playing the the Second Division crown with only a three-point gap over Westgate going into the last fixtures.
Sedgwick entertain fifth-from-bottom Warton A while Westgate look to have the tougher task at fourth-placed Bare.
Meanwhile, Cartmel were confirmed as Division 3 champions at the weekend, successfully completing a memorable league-and-cup double.
Second-placed Burneside are 13 points clear of Heysham in the promotion race and Windermere are relegated.
Barrow are promoted from Division 4 but not certain to finish champions with second-placed Arnside only eight points away, while at the other end of the table Netherfield go down and Ibis looked likely to join them.
In Division 4 it was been a great season for Coniston, who are Division 5 champions and go up along with Kirkby-in-Furness.
