Division Two
Warton A 202-6, Ambleside 205-4*
A solid opening stand from Thompson(26) and Rafferty(50) laid the foundation for Warton'A' to post a challenging total. Smith upped the run-rate finishing on 69no and supported by Nicholson(26) the
visitors closed on 202/6.
The Ambleside innings also began well until Wileman departed for 39. With wickets in hand Ambleside needed 42 off the last 4 overs.
Some big hitting from Penrice(67), scoring his maiden half-century, meant 8 was needed off the last over. Tyson finished 67no while in came Boyd to hit a 6 and a 4 to win a very close contest.
Shireshead A 131-9*, Bare 135-3.
Bare picked up their first win of the season with victory over Shireshead on Saturday. Shireshead decided to bat first and were rewarded with a good start from openers R. Riley (15) and J.Dodd (28)
who put on 38 for the first wicket.
In a similar situation to last week’s game at Burneside, the introduction of first change bowlers brought wickets with slow bowler Lockwood bowling a good line and length he picked up 3 wickets in a spell of 13 overs, Cheetham at the other end also profited from some good in-swing bowling and took 2 for 19 from 8 overs.
Shireshead batsman D.Riley pulled his side round with a well compiled 27 before being bowled by Bransby , Clarkson also added 18 and Wells (10) but Bare kept their discipline with some tight bowling and fielding, restricting Shireshead to 131 at the end of their 45 overs which looked to be a little short on a good wicket and quick outfield.
Wickets were shared around the Bare bowlers with Lockwood 3 for 31 , Bransby 2 for 17 ,Cheetham 2 for 19 and Osmotherly 1 for 23. Bare struggled in reply early on as Osmotherly fell for 15 and Smith for 7 , Cheetham (21) smashed five boundaries to take Bare onto 53 for 3 before being caught at point.
The game was then won for Bare in the next 11 overs as Westworth (47 not out) and skipper Moller (30 not out)came together with an unbroken partnership of 82 , the pair were ferocious on anything over or under pitched and smashed 10 fours and two sixes between them as Bare passed the Shireshead total in just 26 overs.
P.Dodd , R.Wells and A.Moulsdale took one wicket each for Shireshead.
