Milnthorpe ended the ubeaten start to the season made by Shireshead as the hosts claimed a full 15 points in Saturday's first division programme.

Milnthorpe were inserted on what looked a bowler-friendly track but after Mike Park bowled Chris Baldwin (22), Andrew Pennington joined Steve Bowman at the crease to make a stand of 91 for the second wicket.

Pennington went to Park for 40 before Mike Wills was caught for five, but Bowman amassed 71 as Milnthorpe rallied to 181 for 7.

Wills was to come good for the hosts with the ball, took a sprawling one-handed catch at square leg as Twiname (5) went early doors.

Skipper Paul Yates (4) quickly followed suit and when Postlethwaite accounted for Shah (23), the Shires middle order fell away.

Jacques and Riley came to the crease to try to restore parrity but Jacques went soon after, caught in the deep by Colin Whitehouse and when Park was bowled lbw by Cooper, Shires were all out for just 89 with Wills scooping 4-15 off his nine overs.

Warton returned to the top of division one as Dan Dixon hammered 48 - all but four in boundaries - in just 47 balls, against Heysham.

Captain Graeme Crowther put Heysham in to bat and it paid dividends as early wickets saw their hosts slip from 9-2 to 23-3 inside 11 overs.

Only home skipper Jamie Antcliffe offered resistance as he batted through the innings for an unbeaten 50, but with his teammates collapsing around him, Heysham finished on 129-9 with Andrew Ideson (4-27) the pick of the bowlers.

Warton were sailing to victory after reaching 41-1 off 10 overs but successive wickets from Graham Cassidy and Paul Antcliffe saw the visitors reduced to 53-4.

After 20 overs Warton were back on track at 85-4, with Dixon knocking everything in sight for four and a maximum six finished the match in the 29th over as warton made 134-6.

Arnside moved into third spot when beating Silverdale on Saturday but they had to do it the hard way when Matthew Brockbank was caught with the first delivery.

Adrian Lee went for four and Adam Richardson 19 as Arnside had to call on their middle order for the first time in this campaign.

But when called upon, Mike Shepherd (3) and Alex Davidson took the runs into the 90s and Chris Howsley added an unbeaten 32 as Arnside were all out for 154.

The Silverdale chase was swift as Jon Mason put the runs on, but a run out saw Mason depart at 60-2.

Wickets fell steadily from that point as Silverdale were felled for just 121, David Birch (3-27) and Rob Shepherd (3-31) the pick of the bowlers.

Westgate are level with Warton at the top after a 15 point haul against Kirkby Lonsdale.

Kirkby inserted Westgate who made a solid start with David Lord, Garry Tattersall and Peter Wilson all making the twenties but veteran Jim Kettlewell prevented a high run-chase with a magnificent 7-37 as Westgate finished on 133 all out.

Any chance of a Kirkby upset was soon quashed as opening bowlers Andy Hill (6-23) and Danny Wilkinson (3-6) had the home side squirming at 13-8.

Kettlewell hit a couple of boundaries but Kirkby eventually were skittled for 33.

There was a washout at Bolton le Sands as Burneside turned up to find a flooded cricket club, while Windermere had made 51-0 at home to Sedgwick when the rain stopped play.

A DRAMATIC finish in the Division One Laurelle Trophy saw Silverdale edge past Milnthorpe by a solitary run on Friday night.

Milnthorpe bowled their hosts out for a modest 116 with Mike Curran (3-23) and Jono Cooper (3-19) masterminding the downfall.

And after Andrew Pennington (23) kick-started Milnthorpe's reply, a collapse saw them require 10 runs off the last over to tie and go through providing they were not all out.

Two wides and a single left Milnthorpe nstill wanting seven off the last three balls.

A four and two runs followed, meaning a last ball shoot-out ensued with the visitors needing just one run to tie and progress by virtue of losing one wicket fewer.

Steve Bowman tapped James Greenhall’s delivery down the legside but Jon Mason reacted quickest and Craig Postlethwaite was run out, putting Silverdale into round two.

Elsewhere in the cup, Sedgwick chased down Kirkby Lonsdale’s 81 to win by eight wickets while Westgate also progressed against Heysham.

Westgate set a target of 176 for their hosts but they could only muster 169-8 in reply.
