SILVERDALE moved up to third in the Readers Westmorland Cricket League with a three-wicket successs over Milnthorpe.

With a quick outfield, Silverdale skipper Graeme Dodds surprisingly put Milnthorpe in to bat, and Wills put in an accomplished performance to reach 76 not out.

He pushed the side onto 170, which looked a few short on a batting-friendly wicket.

Mason and Fletcher opened the batting in reply for Silverdale, flying to 70 -0, until Curran came in to bowl and quickly get Fletcher (21) and Mason (51) out.

Hargeaves made a match-winning 55 not out to win Silverdale the game with only four balls remaining, despite Mike Curran's individual performance of 5-42.

Arnside picked up their first victory of the season with an easy success at Ambleside.

The home side were skittled out for 55, Howsley claiming 6-19 for the week’s best bowling performance in the division, to give Arnside a straightfoward target to chase.

They still managed to lose half their wickets on the way to chasing 56, but the result lifts them up two places in the division.

Sedgwick remain bottom of the table despite recording their first success of the season.

Bare were bowled all out for 110, and Sedgwick reached their target with six wickets to spare.

In a real clash of the titans, Westgate prevailed against Warton by two wickets.

Warton batted first having won the toss but they were soon on the ropes on 36-6. Danny Dixon (31) and Graeme Crowther (15) steadied the ship with an aggressive 47 partnership before three quick wickets were taken, leaving Warton struggling on 84-9.

But Jack Brown belied his batting position with 46 not out and Warton finished 143 all out.

In reply Westgate were reduced to 5-2 early on, Andrew Ideson maintaining incredible line and length for his 5-35.

Westgate were soon 76-6 but Danny Wilkinson proved to be the match-winner with a fabulous 64 not out. With one ball to spare and two runs needed for victory, Wilkinson hit a six to take the league leaders over the line in style.

Meanwhile Shireshead picked up a seven-wicket success over Bolton-le-Sands, and Burneside won at a canter over Heysham, Bates scoring 51 as they chased down the target of 135 with six wickets to spare.
