SEDGWICK produced the shock of the weekend, beating Silverdale with just one ball left in a thriller at Sedgwick House.

Silverdale, one of five teams separated by just four points near the top of the Westmorland Cricket League, reached 169-5 from the first innings, Mason reaching an impressive 70 not out.

Sedgwick struggled early on but the ship was steadied by Michael Sharp and Joe Portman, with Jason Dalzell knocking off plenty of runs in the process.

It was a tight game and Sedgwick needed two runs off the last two balls to win.

They had one, but a misfield allowed Sedgwick to claim the final winning run for their first 15-point success of the season.

Westgate look like the team to beat after they went 22 points clear with an easy 10-wicket victory over Bolton-le-Sands.

Westgate restricted Bolton-le-Sands to 116-8 off their 50 overs, and they wasted no time in reaching the total, openers Hill (56 not out) and Lord (53 not out) easing their way over the line.

Pennington top-scored for Milnthorpe with 56 as they scored 161-9 against Ambleside.

In the second innings Milnthorpe kept changing the bowling line-up to get Ambleside all out, and they managed that in the 44th over to leave Ambleside on 113 all out. Dan Whitehouse bowled an impressive 5-36.

Warton and Burneside and two of those five sides battling for second, and Warton came out on top in their game at the weekend with a winning draw.

Phil Bovis continued his superb early-season form with 94 not out as Warton made their way to an impressive 218-6, Ben Leacock bowling 4-51.

In reply Burneside lost a couple of early wickets, but David Batty’s accomplished 42 and Simon Hunt’s 28 kept them in the crease.

They had lost seven wickets with 15 overs to spare, but they hung on to score 164-8 and come away with a draw.

Shireshead’s winning streak came to an end at Arnside after the latter posted 213 all out from their first innings. Arnside were 27-2 early on, but Richardson went on to score 91, Shepherd ably supporting him with 35.

Carter kept chipping away for Shireshead and seven catches were taken off him as he posted figures of 7-76.

Shireshead needed a good reply but Howsley bowled 6-42 for Arnside, and they soon had Shireshead on the back foot, with them finishing 127 all out.

The division’s other game saw Bare all out for 86. Heysham lost only one wicket as they chased the target down to give them an easy 12-point success.
