WESTGATE’S unbeaten start to the season was brought to a shattering end by second-placed Burneside with a four-wicket triumph.

Their lead is now 10 points after they were bowled out for 119 to the Cumbrian side.

Despite losing captain Hill for one, Westgate started positively as Lord and Atkinson pushed the score to 30-1.

But Dixon, who bowled a colossal 21 overs for 4-44, gained joy with the new ball and the two were quickly dismissed to leave the league leaders on 56-3 at the halfway stage.

Tattersall was introduced for Burneside and the game completely changed. After conceding 10 runs off his first over, his next six overs lost just four runs and gained two crucial wickets, and Dixon contributed to make Westgate crumble to 65-8.

A solid ninth-wicket partnership by Westgate boosted their total to 119 but it was too few to stop Burneside.

The home side lost wickets at regular intervals in the reply, with Oates (16) getting the most out of the top four batsmen. At the halfway stage, Burneside were 59-3, just three runs better than Westgate had been.

Batty (46 not out) and Cooper (13) put in a good shift together and the former finished the game in style with a massive six over the clubhouse with two overs to spare.

Burneside failed to continue that form into their Hackney and Leigh cup encounter with Warton. Bovis was once again in hot form for Warton, scoring 50, and they set a challenging 155 in their 25 allotted overs.

Burneside were 41-1 after seven overs but the game turned as they failed to keep up with the run rate. They needed 50 off the remaining five overs and that proved too big a total.

Silverdale suffered their second surprise defeat in a row when they lost to Bare by 62 runs.

Bare openers Osmotherly (36) and Smith (17) set a good platform with a 57-partnership and skipper Moller scored 62 as they propelled themselves to 125-3 with 10 overs left. They went onto score 182-8.

In reply Bransby made the early breakthrough having Mason caught behind for 11 and when Cook bowled Collis for 13 Silverdale were 36-2.

Bare kept the run rate tight, which meant Silverdale wickets tumbled as they tried to get runs on the board, and the North Lancashire side were all out for 120.

Albon bowled superbly, returning 5-21.

Shireshead got a winning draw against Ambleside after they declared on 210-9, Oliver top-scoring with 75. In reply Ambleside got to 132-2.

Sedgwick will have been frustrated at the rain only giving them six points against Milnthorpe. They looked superb at 238-6, with Bracken 108 not out, and Milthorpe reached 123-4 as Wills struck 55 not out before the rain intervened.
