RAIN caused havoc in the Westmorland Cricket League this weekend and no matches were completed.

On Sunday in the Twenty20 Cup, Ambleside entertained Shireshead. After electing to bat first, Shireshead were off to a flier as Simon Gould and Nick Rafferty (20) took 16 off the first two overs with Gould particularly severe on anything loose.

Rob Jacques soon departed but Rafferty and Paul Yates then built the highest stand of the day as they added 47. When Yates departed for a run-a-ball 27, the hard-hitting middle order entered the fray and Phil Oliver (23), Dave Jack and Gareth Jennings all contributed to put Shireshead on 127-7.

The Ambleside reply began steadily as 20 were added for the first wicket, but Jennings bowled superbly to keep the brakes on the innings.

He was followed by Jack who ripped the heart out of the Ambleside batting as he bowled with decent pace and good control to bag 4-18, ably supported by Dave Carter.

Ryan Wells (2 for 6) mopped up the tail to leave Shireshead looking forward to a home semi-final with Silverdale as they continue the defence of their Twenty20 crown.
