DIVISION Two Windermere reached the final of the Hackney and Leigh Cup with a narrow success over Warton.

Lewthwaite top-scored with 32 for Windermere as they posted 137-6 off their allotted overs, but Warton failed to capitalise. Vobis scored 70 but his other batters failed him as Park claimed figures of 3-15 and Cooper 3-23.

Warton finished 129-8 having needed 15 runs off the last over to secure victory, and Windermere have booked a David-and-Goliath date with Division One leaders Westgate at Sedgwick’s ground on August 12.

Westgate scored 154-8 in their semi-final against Heysham, Hill scoring 40. In response Heysham floundered early reaching just 13-3. Lee Calverley batted right through with 30 not out but Heysham finished 97-9.

In the league, Burneside picked up a straightforward nine-wicket victory over Arnside, last week’s conquerors of Westgate, as the Cumbrian side bowled them out for 42, Oates claiming a scintillating 6-9.

Burneside knocked that total off through Halsall’s 20 not out and 18 from Shepherd.

Having won the toss the in-form Lord (47) and Pearce (17) ensured Westgate got off to a fine start taking the score to 60-1 after 18 overs. Wilson added 33 and Creed 32 not out to post a challenging total of 185-7.

Milnthorpe had the perfect platform after reaching 34-0 after 17 overs, Wills (19) and Baldwin (16) both comfortable. Andy Hill (3-16) removed both openers in quick succession and after this Milnthorpe’s much feared middle order dug in and batted for a draw at a very early stage.

They finished 63-6.

Phil Mason bowled figures of 5-46 for Silverdale as Warton scored 123.

Silverdale’s innings began in shaky fashion as they were 24-3 off 10 overs, but a 56-run partnership between Jon Mason and Hargreaves steadied the ship as they held on for 103-9 to record a losing draw.

Bare are looking in dire straits as they were bowled all out for 32 against 10th-placed Bolton-le-Sands, Dyson with 6-15.

In the first innings Dyson was superb in scoring 126 as Bolton-le-Sands scored an imposing 178-6 to help them ease to a 15-point success.

Bowlers were on top in the Ambleside versus Heysham tie, with the latter bowled out for 106 as Wileman picked up a six-wicket haul.

But Ambleside could fare no better as they were dismissed for 86, Foster 5-34 as Heysham won by 20 runs.

Sedgwick remain second from bottom after they were bowled out for 109.

They were trying to respond to a target of 173-9 after Carter hit 84, so Shireshead claimed 15 points from the game.
