SILVERDALE versus Arnside became a ‘Thirty30’ match thanks to a two-and-a-half hour rain delay at the start of proceedings.

But Arnside came out on top of the rivalry despite a positive start by Silverdale openers Mason and Thompson, who had them 35 without loss to kick-start their innings.

However their 10 wickets fell for just another 44 runs as Arnside’s Howsley bowled 6-25 to dump Silverdale all out for 79.

In reply an accomplished 48 not out from Richardson and a quick 20 from Davidson put paid to the match as Arnside won by six wickets.

There was another local derby in the shape of Burneside versus Sedgwick, which looked on paper like it should be a straightforward triumph for Burneside.

But that was far from the truth as Burneside found themselves struggling on 70-9.

A last wicket 35-run partnership between Chris Dixon and Airey proved to be the turning point in the match and Burneside’s bowlers did the job as they skittled Sedgwick out for 67.

Three fantastic catches were the catalyst for Milnthorpe’s six-wicket success over Bare as the latter were bowled out for 115.

Baldwin was out first over for Milnthorpe for a shaky start but 33 from Wills and Illingworth’s 35 steered them over the line.

A good start was followed by a mini-collapse for Westgate against Heysham, but they recovered with 47 not out from Wilkinson and his 50-partnership with Creed (41) gave Westgate 161-9 before they declared despite Antcliffe bowling 3-12.

A bad start reduced Heysham to 33-4 and left them relying heavily on a big innings from captain Calverley (31).

Westgate kept their bowling tight but Heysham batted out for a draw, finishing on 98-8.

Rain meant that the points were shared in the Ambleside versus Bolton-le-Sands match, which the former would have been happy with considering they were 13-7 chasing 129 when the weather intervened, and the tie between Shireshead and Warton.
