WARTON put themselves right in the mix for the Westmorland Cricket League title as they defeated Westgate to move within three points of the long-time leaders.

Warton bowled Westgate out for 68 in a superb first innings with all the bowlers chipping in with wickets.

In reply Warton knocked off the total of 69 for the loss of only three wickets to secure a seven-wicket win.

Bare came out on top in a must-win game at Sedgwick on Saturday that leaves the Cumbrian side rooted to the foot of the table.

Sharman (27) gave Bare the best possible start as they raced to 66-1 after 20 overs, with skipper Moller scoring a hard fought 36 as Bare posted a useful score of 154-9.

Evergreen Sedgwick skipper Willacy took 5-48 from a marathon 18 overs.

In reply, Sedgwick got off to a disastrous start as Smith took a wicket with his first ball. Bransby then got in the wickets to leave Sedgwick 2-3.

The collapse continued as Bransby took the next three wickets leaving Sedgwick in disarray with six wickets down for just 31.

They staged an excellent recovery thanks to Portmann (30) and Dalzell (44) but Bransby’s 6-25 left Sedgwick 21 runs short and Bare secured 15 crucial points in the battle to avoid the drop.

Shireshead triumphed over Bolton-le-Sands in a low scoring game.

Yates and Skipworth took Shireshead to 23-0 from six overs but three wickets in seven balls rudely interrupted their progress. Oliver (24) and Carter restored order to take the score to 74-4 but five overs later Shireshead were all out for 84 as Clarkson recorded 6-34.

The Shireshead innings closed with three ducks, but Bolton-le-Sands trumped them with four ducks from their top six batsmen as they went down to 13-5, and by the 22nd over they were 30-7.

A stand of 31 between Holden and skipper Dyson threatened to swing the game back in Sands favour until the introduction of Carter precipitated a 19-run defeat.

Draws were the order of the day in the weekend’s other fixtures.

Burneside went down to fourth in the table after a four-point losing draw to Heysham despite Dixon claiming 5-70 as the Cumbrians got them all out for 178.

Calverley was in equally rude form with ball in hand, recording 5-42 as Burneside scored 169-9 in the second innings, just 10 runs away from victory but one wicket from defeat.

Arnside were dominant against Ambleside, scoring 241-6 in the first innings, but they failed to secure 10 wickets and had to settle for eight points as Ambleside finished 125-7.

Silverdale picked up nine points as they scored 156-5, Thompson with 76 runs. Milnthorpe were 102-8 in reply which leaves them sixth in the table.
