WESTGATE completed the Treble by winning the Westmorland Cricket League in a dramatic climax to the season.

The long-time leaders were bowled out for 109 after 38 overs, meaning that an extra seven overs were attached to Bare’s innings.

Westgate got off to a great start in the reply as they quickly reduced Bare to 30-7, but Suddell and Jay, who both usually play in the Bare second team, put on a remarkable partnership that lasted 30 overs and took them to 84-7.

News was filtering through that Warton had beaten Arnside to claim a 15-point victory which meant that Westgate needed to get nine wickets for the bonus point that would win them the league but with only 15 balls left and seven wickets down, Westgate were up against it.

Siddell fell for 35 and two balls later Jay was dramatically run out for 19 to give Westgate the necessary wickets to secure the title.

In the 51st over the last wicket fell for Bare to finish 85 all out and that gave Westgate a maximum-point success.

Warton did all they could to win the title thanks to an unbeaten 59 from Bovis.

Finney (31) and Brown (30) ably supported him as Warton chased down their target of 148 to win in the 40th over.

Arnside recorded 147-8 in the first innings as Shepherd struck 66.

Burneside signed their season off with a comfortable victory over relegated Ambleside.

A resolute 31 not out from Davies and a cameo 21 from Leacock gave Burneside a total of 119-9 after Burneside had lost the toss and were asked to bat.

In reply Ambleside's top order were blown away with some excellent seam bowling from Oates, who finished 6-29 as Ambleside were all out for 88.

The other relegated team Sedgwick had a fine end to the season, recording back-to-back victories by beating Bolton-le-Sands.

Their six-wicket success came through Bracken’s 69 not out for Sedgwick as they chased down Bolton-le-Sands total of 158 all out.

Milnthorpe finished sixth in the table as they defeated Heysham by 23 runs, Bowman’s 52 and Parkinson’s 5-27 proving the recipe for success. Calverley had scored 53 for Heysham.

Silverdale also ended their season on a high after beating Shireshead by five wickets. The Lancashire side were all out for 98 in the first innings, which Silverdale were able to see off as they reached 99-5.

In Division Two in a match between promoted sides Windermere and Trimpell, it was league winners Windermere who came out on top as they secured a two-wicket victory. They successfully chased down Trimpell, who in the first innings were dismissed for 126.
