THE team behind the rebuild of Donald Campbell's iconic Bluebird boat, which was salvaged from Coniston in 2001 after 34 years at the bottom of the lake, have gained a new jet engine.
It is similar to the Bristol Orpheus engine which powered the speed ace's fateful attempt to break his own water speed record.
Bill Smith, the diver who recovered the craft and who is now restoring the boat, acquired the engine from a static exhibition at Bournemouth airport aviation museum.
The boat will eventually be displayed at Coniston's Ruskin Museum.
