BOSS Michael Stringfellow hailed Kendal's Town drubbing of the previously unbeaten Salford City as his team's best performance of the season.

Salford traveled to the Lancaster and Morecambe College Stadium knowing a win, or a draw, would have propelled them to the summit of the Evo Stik First Division North.

But the Mintcakes, who now sit in 12th place, had other ideas and ran out 6-0 winners as the visitors ended the game with nine men.

And while Stringfellow admits he was impressed with his team's outings, he insists his squad must find consistency if they are to improve their league position.

"I didn't expect the result," said Stringfellow. "I was really pleased with the performance as a whole. We started the game really well when it was 11 v 11. We stopped them playing out from the back and caused them problems on the counter-attack and we were clinical.

"We had a good scouting report. We looked to isolate the centre-halves and we knew if Jordan (Connerton) could get 1-on-1 he has a good chance of creating an opportunity for someone else or scoring goals

"He got his goals, perhaps could have had two or three more but created loads of opportunities and it was our best performance of the season.

"They didn't try and shut up shop. We kept possession of the ball, used our heads and switched it from side to side to get overloads on the wings.

"It is a massive win but we can't get carried away. We've got three points and the goal difference is a bit better but we've got to take that consistency forward. We can't keep losing one and winning one if we want to push up the league table."

Kendal travelled to bottom of the table Padiham last night looking for back-to-back wins but will be without striker Isaac Kusaloka, who has been struggling with a heart problem.

"In football you can't be messing around with heart issues," said Stringfellow. "He has played a couple of games and getting shortness of breath. I have spoken to him and he is disappointed but I wish him all the best and if he can recover he is always welcome back at Kendal."

The Mintcakes host New Mills on Saturday.
