DIVISION One league leaders Galgate scraped past basement club College AFC in the first round of the Sam Price Memorial Cup.

The game was close throughout with chances at a premium with either side capable of winning, but it was a single strike from Chris Gardner that won the game for Galgate.

In round two Galgate will be at home to the winners of the postponed Carnforth Rangers v Storeys tie.

Ingleton also progressed after a 3-1 win at home to Trimpell and Bare Rangers while Bentham, beaten only once so far this season, were knocked out at the hands of Morecambe Royal.

Moor Lane, hit hard with injuries and withdrawals, were beaten 1-0 by Caton United thanks to a Phil Eccleston goal.

In the Premier Division of the Baines Bagguley Penhale North Lancashire and District Football League a Jamie Chick goal ensured Cartmel and District got back to winning ways by overcoming a young Bowerham outfit.

Elsewhere a Liam Breslin hat-trick helped Highgrove FC thrash near neighbours Marsh United 7-3

In Division One the long awaited clash between leaders Mayfield United and Lancaster Rovers nearly had to wait again as early morning frost covered the pitch but by kick-off time the pitch was declared fit for play by the referee. Rovers scored the only goal in the first half through Jake Jackson but strikes from Anthony McCluskey, Daniel Martin, Michael Denwood and a brace from Peter Myerscough saw Mayfield move four points clear of second place Swarthmoor.

In the Division Two Steve Presnail Printers/Whiteside Cup 2nd Round a rejuvenated Marsh United Reserves were much too good for the out of form Burton Thistle.

In league matches AFC Moorlands ran riot over Morecambe Royal Reserves, Galgate Reserves were 5-3 losers at home to Freehold while TIC Dyn/Overton/Midd Reserves and Ingleton Reserves played out a 1-1 draw.

In the Division Three Fairclough/Woodruff/Parkinson/Collegian Cup 2nd Round a strong Carnforth Rangers ‘A’ side entertained in-form Torrisholme.

Carnforth scored twice through Robbie Mooring and Torrisholme through Cameron Kay, his first of the season. Kyle Jackson scored in the dying seconds to secure the win for Carnforth.

Elsewhere Trimpell and Bare Rangers Reserves had an easier than expected win when they smashed a Highgrove Reserves side 8-1.

In the semi-final Trimpell Reserves will be away to Preesall and Pilling.

In Division Four leaders FC Brittania increased their lead at the top of the table to seven points ahead of Westgate Wanderers Reserves after a 5-1 win over Millhead Reserves.

Heysham Reserves and Westgate were both winners over AFC Moorlands Reserves and Carnforth Rangers Youth respectively.
