MICHAEL Stringfellow insists Kendal Town's fortunes will change if they continue to show the qualities they displayed in Tuesday night's narrow defeat at Spennymoor Town.

Defender Joe Tait rifled in a 96th minute winner for big-spending Spennymoor to condemn the Mintcakes to their fourth league defeat on the spin.

But it easily could have been a different story with Kendal spurning a number of chances to win the game late on.

"We came with a game plan," said Stringfellow. "We know they are a good side with a fantastic budget so we've come to try get behind the ball and try and counter.

"The first half we defended well but it is disappointing to concede goals in the last minute of both halves.

"We have got to switch on and do better with that but in open play I think we more than matched them. We created a lot of opportunities and I said to the lads afterwards I'm sure the next result will be soon.

"When we put little patches of play together we did cause them problems and created chances so there are lot of positives and I believe we did deserve a point.

"The squad is really young and sometimes that might be a bit of a downfall because they can switch off at times but I'm sure if we keep working on them players they will come through for us.

"It is a disappointed dressing room but I couldn't have a go at any of them, they all played the game we asked of them."

Kendal now face a busy Christmas period with five games in 12 days, including three home fixtures, and Stringfellow expects his side to begin a charge up the table.

"We've played against some top sides the last few weeks and we have competed," he said. "We've got five games in a short space of time and I am expecting to pick up quite a few points over that time.

"We have been fantastic at home and have got a great record. It's a tough place for anyone to come to us."

The manager was also quick to praise debutant Jamie Colebourn.

"He is someone who is a good footballer and suits the way we play so I had no problem chucking him straight in," he said. "It was an excellent debut performance."
