DALTON-IN-FURNESS' Georgia Stanway admits she is loving life after scoring six times in seven games to guide Blackburn Rovers to a third-place finish in the Women’s Premier League North.

The England under-17s striker has made an immediate impact on the side after making her debut for the senior team in January.

And the 16-year-old’s most recent flourish came in Rovers’ last game of the season when she bagged a brace in a 4-4 thriller with Huddersfield on Wednesday.

But despite breaking into Rovers’ first team Stanway still turns out for Blackburn’s under-17s, something she is looking to continue doing for the foreseeable future.

“It can be quite hectic playing for both teams but I love football,” said Stanway, an SSE Next Generation athlete.

“I fit it all in by playing for the under-17s on Saturdays and then mid-week and Sunday games for the ladies.

“The ladies’ matches are definitely more physically demanding and the games are quite a lot faster so you get a lot less time on the ball.

“In the under-17 league Blackburn are one of the best teams, we finished joint top of the league this year which was a great achievement.

“And I only came into the ladies team halfway through the season but know the team was really pleased to finish third because last year they just scraped staying up so to beat relegation and then finish that high up the league the next year is a big step forward.

“I set myself some personal targets before the start of the season but my main one was to finish top goal scorer in the under-17 league which I did so that’s very pleasing.”

Stanway is certainly no stranger to hard work after somehow managing to cram revision sessions for her GCSEs into her busy schedule.

The Dowdales School student is currently sitting her exams and is determined to achieve the best possible grades before taking off to represent England at this summer’s Under-17 European Championships in Iceland.

Stanway was instrumental in securing the under-17s’ qualification, scoring six goals in three games, and now can’t wait to play her part in a fantastic summer for women’s football.

“Playing in Iceland is going to be fantastic,” she added. “We can’t wait to take on some of the best players in Europe.

“It’s a massive summer for women’s football with the World Cup as well so I’ll be watching that as much as possible.

“My favourite players are Toni Duggan and Fara Williams, I’ve always looked up to Williams especially.

“My manager is friends with her and I remember she once managed to get me a one of her England shirts which I’d always wanted so that was a dream come true.”
