A BRACE by Paula Doyle moved Kendal Town Ladies joint top of the NWWRFL Division One North League after a comfortable 3-1 home win over Bury Girls and Ladies.

Kendal went into the game looking to keep their unbeaten league run intact – a record which stretches back to October.

Town started the game on the front foot, as Daisy Purcell tested the Bury keeper, while Lisa Rowlinson headed wide from a delivery into the box.

Jessica Tait also threatened as she saw her effort go over the bar while Paula Doyle constantly pressurised the visitor’s backline.

However Kendal’s pressure finally told midway through the first half as Doyle worked her way through the Bury defence, before comfortably slotting the ball past the 'keeper.

Kendal could have scored more goals as Tait blasted the ball over the bar, while Kendal captain Sarah McCabe side footed the ball wide of the post after getting on the end of a cross into the box.

The second half saw further spells of Kendal pressure, with Elsie Atkinson going close while both Doyle and Tait also had good opportunities.

Kendal though broke Bury's resistance late into the game when Doyle scored her second after capitalising on a scramble in the box before finishing the ball past the keeper.

Joanne Thompson then scored a third in the last eight minutes after sliding the ball home as she got onto the end of a free-flowing attacking move.

Bury did manage to score a consolation in the 89th minute with a spectacular effort which left the Kendal 'keeper stranded.
