MILNTHORPE Corinthians and Kendal County progressed into the next round of the Senior Challenge Cup after both West Lancashire League teams avoided upsets.

Corinthians, who are the defending cup holders picked, up a hard fought 3-1 win at Westmorland League Division Three side Kirkby Stephen, while Kendal County defeated Penrith Reserve 4-1 at Frenchfields.

Bailey Carlos scored a brace for County, while Dan Ferguson and Kris Clough completed the scoring.

Elsewhere, Keswick defeated Windermere 4-2 as Steve Hindmarch scored twice while an own goal and a Richard Bannister effort rounded off a solid performance.

Wetheriggs United and Shap battled it out to a 4-4 stalemate in normal time, with Shap coming back from 2-0 down in the first half. In extra time, the winner came for Shap to make it 5-4. The Shap goals came from a Luke Fraser hat trick and two from Jordan Palmer, and Wetheriggs’ four came from a Lewis Windle brace, Alex Johnson and Joe Henderson.

Ambleside routed Langwathby United 7-1, Appleby defeated Kirkoswald 2-1, while Castletown United edged out Greystoke 1-0.

There was only one game in the Junior Cup as Dent progressed into the next round following a 5-1 win at Endmoor KGR Reserve.

Kendal County Reserves picked up a much needed 3-0 victory against Sedbergh Wanderers in Westmorland League Division One. Nathan Turner, Cameron Neil and debutant Michael Clayden scored the crucial goals for the claret and blues.

Carleton Banks extended their advantage at the top of Division Two after a comfortable 7-2 victory against Eden Thistle.

In the other games, Adam Beatty's brace guided Keswick Reserves to a 3-2 win at Ullswater United, Kendal United Reserves picked up a comfortable 4-1 win at Staveley United as Matt Kennedy scored twice, while Windermere Reserves defeated Appleby Reserves 5-2.

Neither of the top two in Division Three were in action as Kirkby Stephen were in cup action, while Ibis Reserves' game with Lunesdale United was postponed out of respect after the passing of Ibis coach Neil Wake.

Tyler Parks’ hat trick guided Burneside to a 3-2 win at Sedbergh Wanderers Reserves, Kirkoswald Reserves won 4-1 at Ambleside United Reserves, Penrith Academy picked up a 3-1 win at Penrith Royal while Penrith Saints picked up a 3-0 win at Penrith Town as the Saints climbed up to ninth in the table.
