Westmorland Football: Endmoor earn first win as Staveley remain unbeaten

Endmoor arrived in division one with a storming comeback against Kendal Celtic on Saturday.

After losing their opening day fixture 2-0 to Carvetii United, the hosts found themselves 2-1 down at half-time against Celtic.

But some inspired football helped them on their way and they ran out 6-2 winners.

Endmoor took the lead within 10 minutes when Nathan Dixon converted a Shane Lambert corner, but Celtic equalised in the 35th minute through Krzysztof Wronski.

And before the break Danny Colin made it 2-1 for Celtic as they took control.

Endmoor manager Niko Noreci changed things at half time, bringing on striker Scott O’Callaghan and winger Scott Fraizer and they had an immediate impact.

On 48 minutes, Endmoor levelled when Jamie Harrison slotted home a penalty after Sean Atkinson was felled in the box.

O’Callaghan then scored five minutes later to restore the lead for Endmoor.

Harrison scored an impressive 20-yard goal for his second and Endmoor’s fourth before Liam Jackson and Sean Atkinson hit the net for 6-2.

Burneside were hit for 10 at Wetheriggs United as their poor start to the season continued. Martin Coleman bagged five goals, while Grant Davidson (2), Steven Hall, Peter Askins and Philip Askins, also netted.

The visitors trailed 4-0 at half time, with Matthew Rowlinson having their best chance, and Wetheriggs were ruthless in the second half as they scored six more to complete an emphatic win.

Staveley United followed up a 1-0 midweek win over Sedbergh Wanderers with a 2-2 draw at home to Penrith Rangers.

Jimmy Ellwood gave United the lead in the 60th minute after the hosts had missed a first half penalty.

But Rangers turned the game around through Tom Hodges and David Gaskill to lead 2-1.

Lloyd Trippett scored a late leveller though as United continued their unbeaten start to the season.

Elsewhere Shap ran out 3-1 winners at home to Sedbergh Wanderers, while Appleby and Carvetii United played out a 2-2 draw.
