A NEW kit has led to a change in fortunes at Burneside FC as they look to rebuild their side after relegation from division one of the Bluefin Westmorland Football League.
After a difficult 2010/11 season, Burneside started this campaign in division two and were teetering above the drop zone to the third tier before the shirts arrived.
The gift comes from former goalkeeper Scott Littlewood of Alpha Roofing, who presented the new kit in mid-November, and since then the side have won three from three.
On Saturday, a derby-day 2-1 victory was recorded against Ibis as Burneside came from behind.
A rash challenge from Scott O’Callaghan on a hevay pitch saw them reduced to 10 men and Ibis took advantage to go a goal to the good.
But the winning record continued thanks to two quick goals from Graham Withers before the break.
It was all square in numbers after the break when Ibis’ Josh Ford saw red when he retaliated to a poor challenge.
Burneside brought on fresh legs and should have extended their lead when Dean McNeill went through one on one with the Ibis keeper but he was thwarted and Burneside took the points with a 2-1 win.
In a weather affected schedule, Keswick won 7-0 at home to Kendal Celtic to move up to sixth in division one, while Unisun Athletic were 5-0 winners at Ibis Reserves to remain top of division four.
Burneside A are fourth in the same league after a 2-0 home win against Esthwaite Vale.
