CARNFORTH Rangers and Highgrove FC closed to within five points of leaders Bentham at the top of the North Lancashire and District Football League.
Chris Needham scored the only goal of the game as Rangers beat Morecambe Royals as they moved fourth in the table.
Highgrove leapfrogged Bowerham/Furness United with a 1-0 victory as second met third and now three sides are sat five points adrift of Bentham.
In the RM Fisher/ Howson Remembrance Cup there was a second round upset as Division Four side Millhead Reserves dumped out Division Two Ingleton Reserves.
There was also cup agony for Grange in the Division One Holdens Solicitors/ Gibson Cup second round when they lost on penalties against College AFC.
The game finished 3-3 after extra time thanks to a Carl Davidson penalty and a brace from Ryan McKenny but College won 4-2 in the shoot-out.
And Chris Mather (2), Daniel Dixon and Michael Jones all scored but Bolton le Sands were on the wrong side of a nine goal thriller, losing 5-4 to Trimpell.
