JAMES Earnshaw bagged a hat-trick as Bentham moved into the second round of the 848-848 Taxis/Sam Price Memorial Cup on Saturday.
High-flying Bentham were 8-1 winners at home to Caton United, with further goals coming from Graham Cowgill, Chris Hodgkinson, Stuart Ralph, David Whitfield and Matthew Lister. Matthew Smith scored a consolation for Caton.
In the division one Holdens Solicitors/Gibson Cup second round, Cartmel Reserves edged a dramatic tie against Bolton le Sands on penalties.
Alastair Daggart and Sean McClure ensured the tie went the full distance for Cartmel and they progressed with a 5-4 shootout victory.
In the league second-placed College AFC were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Millfield, leaving them four points behind TIC Dynamos of Overton and Middleton, who have a game in hand.
Ingleton Reserves and Torrisholme FC shared a 2-2 draw in division two as frost put paid to most of the fixtures scheduled for the weekend.
Burton Thistle were on the wrong end of an 11-5 scoreline as they went down to Trimpell Reserves in division three.
Matthew White, Adam White, Simon Shepherd, Chris Plevey and Richard Goot scored for Thistle, but Jamie McMeekin stole the show with a hat-trick for Trimpell.
There were also 5-2 and 4-2 wins for Kirkby Lonsdale Reserves and Pilling and Preesall.
