Burneside kick off Westmorland league campaign with three points

BURNESIDE had a mixed start to life in Division One with a win and a defeat from their opening two encounters.

They lost 3-1 to Kirkoswald on Saturday but bounced back with a 2-1 victory over Staveley United on Tuesday night to leave them fourth in the early stages of the Westmorland Football League.

Kendal Celtic were on the receiving end of a 6-3 defeat to Lunesdale United on Saturday with goals for Kendal coming from a Nick Chaplow brace and Ben Simpson.

Lunesdale are the only side to have won two out of two having beaten Sedbergh Wanderers 2-1 on Tuesday night, with the latter the victim of doing the opposite. They were soundly beaten 7-2 by Penrith Rangers on Saturday.

Appleby began their campaign with two high-scoring draws, playing out a 3-3 tie with Wetheriggs United before they drew by the same score against Penrith Rangers on Tuesday night.

Ambleside United Reserves, who won Division Two last season, had a tough opening fixture when they took on champions Keswick last night, while Kendal United begin their campaign at home to Kirkoswald on Saturday.
