BOSS Michael Stringfellow was not too disheartened despite his Kendal Town team exiting the Lancashire Cup away at Bamber Bridge on Tuesday night.

Stringfellow has picked up 18 points from 10 games since he took over at the helm in September but used the cup game to give some of the fringe players in his squad a run out.

After conceding three goals in the opening ten minutes, the Mintcakes enjoyed long spells of possession but were ultimately defeated 4-2.

"The first ten minutes started slowly," he admitted. "We made a few changes, brought a few lads in who have been on the bench and gave them an opportunity. After the first ten minutes we played some decent football and it was a good exercise which gave me a chance to look at everyone and see where we are at.

"I think it was a mentality problem coming into a cup game. We have got to be a bit more professional but I am hoping to maybe bring in a few new players next week.

"In the end it was a close contest and a real end to end cup game which wasn't a bad game to watch from a neutral perspective but we have got to concentrate on the league now."

Kendal's season started badly under Dave Foster as they went nine games in the league and cup without a win, but a recent turn in fortune has seen the Mintcakes jump to just four points off a play-off place.

The cup defeat followed a 4-4 thriller against New Mills on Saturday and 6-0 and 5-1 demolitions of first Salford City and then Padiham and Stringfellow hopes that league form will return when FA Cup giant killers Warrington, who beat Exeter in the First Round of the famous cup, visit the Lancaster and Morecambe College Stadium on Saturday.

"We have picked up quite a lot of points over the last few months so our aim is to try and emulate that over the coming months," he said. "Warrington will be a tough game. They have done so well in the FA Cup maybe I hope they are keeping an eye on that and if we are on our game we can win. We are at home so we will be going on the front foot."
