MICHAEL Stringfellow praised his players' resolve as Kendal Town scored a late leveller to pick up a point against Clitheroe - despite losing two key players to injury in the first-half.

First Byron Andrews was stretchered off with suspected knee ligament damage before full back Rob Henry went down the tunnel.

The teams went in at the break without troubling the scoreboard and Stringfellow was pleased with the enforced defensive re-organisation.

"It's not the best scenario losing two players to injury so early on and I think it was really positive that we were able to shuffle it about and get in at half-time 0-0," he said.

"From time-to-time this season we have conceded early goals so we wanted to keep it tight and with the changes we had to make it was not a bad first-half performance from my point of view but I admit it wasn't the best footballing spectacle to watch."

Zach Clark, one of the enforced substitutes, was involved in Kendal's first goal when he was bundled down in the penalty box allowing Jordan Connerton to add another goal to his season's haul.

"It was a great bit of individual skill and that's what he can do," said Stringfellow. "He came on, made an impact straight away and won us the penalty then Jordan did what Jordan always does and score goals.

"We went out second-half trying to win the game. I just felt maybe we tried to get the ball down too much and it was not the right conditions to do that.

"A point was a fair reflection of the game but on another day we could have got the three points. We showed a lot of character to get back in the game and it is something to build on."

Kendal now sit in 14th place with 41 points but Stringfellow has his sights set a late surge up the table.

"We would do really well to finish in the top 10 with the teams that are in our league this season," he said. "There are some real big-hitters with good squads but that's the aim and if we finish somewhere near there I would be quite happy with that.

"At the moment the most positive thing watching the games is the quality of the young lads who are playing so hopefully the experience they get in the next few games will stand them in good stead for next season."
