KENDAL Town suffered at the hands of 'clinical' Warrington who made their chances count to take all three points and condemn the Mintcakes to mid-table mediocrity.

Things looked good for Kendal, who had the better of the opening exchanges, but the tide turned before half time and manager Michael Stringfellow's men never recovered.

Stringfellow said: "I thought we started the game really well. Warrington are a good side and they have a strong squad yet they didn't have a shot until 25 minutes which showed how clinical they were on the day because the second chance they had they took and went 1-0 up. We had a very good chance at that point. We were very unfortunate to go in 1-0 down at half time."

The game finished 3-0 to promotion-pushing Warrington, a scoreline Stringfellow feels is a bit unfair.

"I think 3-0 flattered them a little bit," he said.

"If we had taken our chances at critical points in the game, like when they were winning 1-0, we had a great chance an then another one after half time. They were really clinical on the day. I'm happy with the performance the lads put in but on the other hand we probably could have got something out of the game. There were a few individual errors that cost us and Warrington are a very experienced side while we had a few young lads so they punished us. But we battled and created chances and I thought as a team we did really well."

Individual errors were blamed for the nature of the defeat, with long balls over the top proving to be the Mintcakes' nemesis.

Stringfellow said: "All their goals were from long balls and I thought we could've dealt with that better. We're working really hard on the training pitch to try and stop these mistakes and improve the lads. It's a case of 'can we change our fortunes and make the players better?'"

With Kendal's season essentially over and a mid-table finish a certainty, Stringfellow could have a job on his hands keeping his side motivated.

"I don't think so because they are playing for their places for next season," said a defiant Stringfellow.

"We weren't going through the motions - every game you turn up to you should want to do well and prove a point. If people turn up thinking they've only got a few games left then I won't accept that."
