SIX new players have signed on the dotted line as Kendal Town begin their preparations ahead of next season.

The Mintcakes finished a disappointing 16th in Evo-Stik First Division North and have been working hard in the transfer market ready to challenge towards the upper end of the table this season.

Two new goalkeepers have signed as Kendal look to add more clean sheets to their name after they conceded 92 goals last campaign - the league's third worst defensive record.

Richard Whiteside, formerly of Southport, Burscough and Chester, and Will Kitchen, who has played for Morecambe, will battle it out for a place between the sticks.

Defender Dan Towers also joins from Morecambe while energetic midfielder Rob Wilson returns into the fold at the Lancaster and Morecambe College Stadium.

Ex-Clitheroe, Bamber Bridge and Lancaster City attacker Danny Wilkins and former Stockport striker Joe Noblet complete the new signings so far.

"We have signed a number of new players who have a lot potential and desire to progress at Kendal town.

"I’m hopeful I can bring in one or two more experienced player to help our talented young players.

"I’m delighted that all the players from last season have committed to the club and I’m sure there will be plenty of competition for places."

Pre-season matches announced so far include hosting Conference outfit Barrow AFC on July 11 and an u18s Blackburn Rovers team on July 28.

Kendal will then travel to Dunston UTS on August 1 before going up against Workington three days later at home.
