RELENTLESS Kendal Town brushed their opponents to one side en route to a thumping victory at the Pye Motors Stadium.

The home side ran out 4-0 winners against Scarborough Athletic in the FA Trophy Preliminary Round.

Rob Wilson's first half strike put Kendal 1-0 up after the Mintcakes started the game brightly, starving the visitors of possession.

It took just 13 minutes to open the account after a deft flick from Jordan Connerton set up Wilson who cooly slotted the ball into the bottom corner of Scarborough's exposed net.

Michael Stringfellow's men needed to be well organised at the back to keep the clean sheet, with some smart play from Scarborough's forwards threatening to level the score.

The first half petered-out with Kendal going in the happier of the two teams and it was not long into the second period that the Mintcakes had doubled their advantage.

Goal machine Jordan Connerton buried the ball into the roof of the net on 49 minutes with a powerful shot after some lovely, quick-paced passing in the build-up.

Kendal then made the game safe on 66 minutes when Dan Wilkins managed to get on the end of a fine Connerton through ball, rounding the keeper before slotting it home.

The rout was completed when Wilkins skipped the offside trap to play in the eager Craig Carney who tapped the ball home from close range, making it four.

With the game sealed, Kendal boss Stringfellow made some substitutions as Dan Towers, Zach Clark and Tommy Watson were all given a run out for what was left of the match.

Scarborough's miserable afternoon was compounded when Ben Hirst missed a sitter right in front of goal.

The hapless striker somehow managed to fire the ball off the cross bar after being put clean through on goal.

However, Kendal could have made it 5-0 on 90 minutes when Zack Clark outpaced the visiting defence but could not quite find the net as he fired across goal.

Kendal's strong start to the season continued and the resounding victory sent the 213-strong crowd home in a jubilant mood following another positive display.
