Kendal Town Ladies crashed to defeat after they lost 6-1 to Bury Girls and Ladies at The Pye Motors Stadium.

The score line was harsh on the team who created plenty of opportunities, especially in the first half. However the fitness told midway through the second half as Bury, who are in contention for the league title, ran away with the contest.

Kendal dominated the opening exchanges and were almost in front on the fifth minute after Lauren Downhams close range effort on goal was parried away for a corner by the Bury goalkeeper.

The Mintcakes continued to create opportunities while Jess Tait’s chipped effort on goal rebounded off the post before the Bury defence did well to clear away a succession of corners.

However, Bury opened the scoring after 30 minutes when Kristeen Ferenczi slotted the ball home past Jen Carradus in the Kendal goal.

Kendal fell further behind five minutes before half time when Leah Tibbott passed the ball into the net after Jordan Bailey made a well timed pass to the prolific striker.

Bury missed further chances before half time most notably through Bailey who slotted the ball wide of the left hand post.

Kendal got back into the game five minutes into the second half after Jess Taits long range effort on goal fell into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

The Mintcakes applied a lot of pressure on the visitors, who had to put in a lot of last ditch challenges to keep their lead intact while half chances by Sarah Mc Cabe and Joanne Thompson were comfortably saved by the Bury keeper.

However Bury made the game safe after Hulda Siquroardottir drilled the ball home past the keeper.

Bury pushed on as Kendal ran out of energy, before a second goal by Ferenczi, and strikes by Jordan Bailey and Lucy Golding completed the rout.

Kendal travel to play Bolton Wanderers Ladies on Sunday in the Plate competition, before another away game at Workington reds a week later in the county cup.
