A trip to Yorkshire always seems to cause problems for Kendal, and on Tuesday night those troubles continued as Town lost 3-2 at Ossett Town, which in turn ended the team’s unbeaten start to the season.

I shouldn’t be too surprised by the defeat as Ossett always seem to do the business over Kendal; however I was a little surprised by the performance of the team. Kendal just didn’t play well, and the best side won on the night. Being league leaders means you are a target and good young sides like Ossett get stuck in and made it a very difficult night.

Its such a long season, it’s more a marathon than a sprint and at the moment teams are looking to stay at the right end of the table so that when the season does get into the business end, you stand a good chance of doing well!

Kendal have made a good start and despite the defeat, they are handily placed in the table. Saturday brings a different challenge, as the FA Cup qualifiers begin, Town host Guisborough in the 1st qualifying round, on paper Kendal should ease past them however in the FA Cup, form and league placings doesn’t really matter that much.

Truth be told I know very little on this weekends opponents, I know that they beat Wakefield to get to this stage, and I also know that they play in the 2nd division of the Northern League, where they are 8th in the table.

For Kendal to progress they will have to play well and take the match seriously which I am sure they will, Guisborough will be looking for a cup shock, so in many ways the pressures on Kendal as they are expected to progress, which can bring some pressure.

The fa cup treated Kendal well 2 years ago; they were 1 round away from the 1st round only losing by a single goal to Altrincham at Parkside Road. Last season Town got as far as the 2nd qualifying round I think where they lost at home to Mossley. The competition brings opportunities for non league teams, especially with the financial rewards as well as the prestige of getting a chance to get into the 1st round proper.

Hopefully Kendal can bounce back quickly, and start to build some momentum again.
