It kept raining goals last Saturday as Town smashed 9 past Guisborough in the FA Cup 1st qualifier at Parkside Road.

The score line came as a surprise as you don’t really expect a team to slam 9 past anyone. And anyone that’s at the wrong end of a score line like that would feel very demoralized afterwards.

However Kendal did a job and showed that the gap between them and Guisborough was pretty huge.

That said Guisborough to give them credit tried to play football, and that was maybe their undoing, it’s like a team such as Wolves trying to play Arsenal at their own game, it just won’t work. But Guisborough can be applauded for what they were trying to do; it was just unfortunate for them that Kendal were in such red hot form on the day.

The 9-1 win means they now face off against Ossett Town at Parkside Road on the 26th of the month. Ossett as has been well documented are Kendal’s bogey side, Infact Town lost at Ossett just last Tuesday. Theirs something about them which makes it hard for Kendal to beat them, however being around the club and the team I sense a determination that they want to write a few wrongs, and usually when Kendal are in that sort of mood, more often than not they go out and deliver. And as the saying goes all good things have to come to an end, so let’s hope that things turn in Towns favour.

The FA Cup brings a lot of financial rewards it was something like £3,000 for winning last Saturday and that’s a massive amount of money for a club like Kendal.

Anyhow this weekend the team are back in league action with an away trip to Hucknall Town. Kendal were meant to play this past Tuesday but as Frickley drew at Worksop in the cup our match with Frickley had to be postponed. It’s good to get a break, however as a football fan it’s always disappointing when a match doesn’t happen.

That aside, Hucknall will be a tough proposition, they got relegated from the Conference North at the end of last season, and have made a modest start to life in The Unibond. They are unbeaten in something like 3 matches, and will be tough especially on their turf.

But Kendal themselves are in pretty good form and the 9-1 win last weekend will give them that extra momentum at the weekend. 2nd in the league isn’t a bad place to be but it would be nice to say that your team are top of the league, and all the points they get now will set them up nicely for when it gets serious after Christmas.
