KENDAL Town picked up a comprehensive 4-0 win over basement side Burscough on Tuesday Night to register their first victory since early February.

Rob Bowman and Sam Bailey scored two apiece as the Mintcakes eased to victory to climb to 11th in the Evo-Stik Division One North table.

Kendal dominated and were almost ahead inside two minutes only for Danny Forbes to see shot on goal go wide of the right hand post.

The hosts continued to miss further opportunities through Charlie Bailey who first saw his effort blocked by the Burscough defence before his close range effort on goal was saved by the feet of visiting keeper Ben Horrow.

Burscough offered very little going forward with Philip Bannister the main threat but his powerful effort at goal was cleared away by the Kendal backline.

However Kendal remained in control as Sam Bailey was next to go close but his effort hit the cross bar, before Martin Grundy and Matthew Dudley were both denied by the ever-busy Horrow.

Kendal eventually opened the scoring after 34 minutes when a quick corner caught the Burscough defence off guard before a well-worked attacking move in the penalty area saw Bowman finish from close range.

In the second half Kendal stepped their play up and were more aggressive with their approach, while Burscough were forced into last-ditch defending to keep the Black and Whites at bay.

However Kendal's patience was eventually rewarded after 53 minutes when a corner in from the left hand side was volleyed home from close range by Bailey who was left unmarked in the area.

Kendal continued to press and probe while Dudley's misfortune in front of goal continued as Horrow continued to frustrate the midfielder.

But it was 3-0 with more than 20 minutes still to play when Bowman tapped the ball into an empty net after another well-worked move by David Foster's team.

Kendal rounded off the scoring in injury time when the referee pointed to the penalty spot following a foul by Thomas Croughan on Dudley.

Bailey stepped up to power the ball home past the keeper for his second and Kendal's fourth of the night to round off a comfortable display.

After the game, manager Foster said: "I am pleased with the win, we dominated the game, scored four good goals, and I am also happy with the clean sheet.

"We were better in the second half, it was a bit pedestrian at times in the first half and we should have been four, five nil up by half time.

"I was really happy with the second half, the players responded and stepped up their level of play and they put their chances away.

"Tonight was a really good opportunity for us to dominate the game and I am pleased we did that especially in the second half."
