SAM Bailey's second half strike rescued a point for Kendal Town as they drew 1-1 with Hyde United at the Pye Motors Stadium on Tuesday.

His deflected close-range effort cancelled out Matthew Beadle's 17th minute opener for the visitors, with the Mintcakes staying 13th in the table with the draw.

Kendal made a bright start and were almost ahead inside two minutes when a Charlie Bailey pass across the area was toe poked wide by Steven Yawson.

David Foster's team continued to probe, while Sam Bailey who was free on the right hand side fired the ball into the side netting before Charlie Bailey's close-range effort was comfortably stopped by Russ Saunders in the Hyde goal.

Kendal with all the play in the early stages also saw Josh Draycott's curled attempt on goal saved by Saunders.

However Hyde broke the deadlock when a cross into the box by Ryan Ellison was headed home by Beadle. The move initially came about after Kendal stopped to appeal for a hand ball, and while referee John Mulligan waved play on Ellison was given enough time to get the cross into the danger area.

Hyde almost made it 2-0 five minutes later when Leon Osborne's effort from just outside the penalty area was collected by Will Kitchen, while Ben Thomas made a last ditch challenge to deny Beadle who was about to unleash a powerful effort on goal.

Kendal looked a constant threat when in possession, with further opportunities created by Sam Bailey and Charlie Bailey, while Hyde United's Chris Sutherland headed the ball into Kitchen's arms.

The visitors played with a lot of pace as the first half drew to a close, while Janni Lipka's effort on goal went over the cross bar.

In the second half the game was scrappy with very few chances created, although Draycott had an opening but fired the ball over from close range.

Beadle and Osborne saw further efforts on goal comfortably saved before Yawson side footed the ball wide of the right hand post as Kendal attacked at the other end.

But Kendal equalised when a quick corner into the penalty area fell to the feet of Sam Bailey whose powerful effort on goal deflected into the net.

Both sides at this stage saw the game out with very little else going on in the danger zones, as the points were shared.
